MOTHER TONGUE WEEK REFLECTION
Chinese Fan Dance
China is known as the kingdom of fans, it has the most beautiful, biggest fan, and the most wonderful fan dance. Fan dance was created in the Han dynasty around 2000 years ago.
The Chinese fan dance is a symbol of beauty, grace, and skill. It was used for Chinese celebrations such as Chinese New Year and Lantern Festival. It is an important dance and the teachers at SWA decided to include the Fan dance as part of our Mother tongue celebrations. Tuesday was Asia day and Ms Lucy was both the leader and the teacher of the dance. I think the dance was very good, the movements were slow but powerful and sometimes it reminded me of Tai Chi. The white satin costumes and the bright red fans really fitted the dance. The idea of flipping and opening out the fan was also very fascinating and it made the dance creative.
